Client: J. Dharma and Deanna Windham
Project: Book Covers for their book I, Nemo, and it’s sequel, Raise The Nautilus (cover to be shown upon release!)
Description: A good friend of mine and his wife have recently had their latest co-written novel series picked up by Perseus Publishing. Getting published is the catharsis of a long period of research, writing, and pitch preparation. Before their agent courted their series to the publishing powers that be, they hired me to design two sample covers that could be submitted in a media kit along with book excerpts and summaries. In the end, even though Perseus Book Group has it’s own cover design team, they might very well use the covers I designed they liked them so much! The covers were created by a Leonardo-esque grand experiment of mediums involving charcoal drawings, pencil drawings, vector illustrations, Photoshop coloring, and text and layout back in Illustrator.
But forgive my vanity – back to the books.
The books. They’re exciting as all hell. I’ve read the first of the two-book series, which sheds light on the mystery of legendary Captain Nemo’s origin story, then rumbles through a smart, sexy and tortured steam-punk adventure. The saga continues into the second book where the genre morphs from steam-punk into a dual-timelined story of present meets past, with the ghost of Nemo haunting the dive team seeking to raise his storied ship from it’s grave at the ocean’s floor. There’s so much more, but I can’t tell you because ultimately you’ll just have to buy the ebook to enjoy it in full. I’ll post the link to the store as soon as it’s available!
