“I Love Your Presence” Album Artwork
Description: This is the the third CD we’ve designed for Vineyard Music, and it it is by far our favorite with them yet! Our liason at Vineyard, Melisa, contacted us about the project at the end of last year. The album was a Christian live worship album from one of their Vineyard locations in Phoenix, AZ. They didn’t really have any specific idea of what the cover art should be, so the world was our oyster design-wise. After brainstorming and mocking up numerous ideas, we decided on focusing the art around the vast sweeping beauty of the Arizona landscape. To help make our vision a reality we contacted one of our favorite photographers to work with, Nick Sorensen, a fine photographer and – conveniently – based out of Peoria, Arizona. We told him to think about the grand landscapes common to westerns and to really magnify the immeasurableness of it all. He came back to us with a slew of breathtaking images and it was now time to pull them into Adobe Illustrator and play with composition, design, and typography.
We decided to use a photo of a stoic, immovable mountain for the cover. We mirrored the image and used some Photoshop magic to create a day/night effect. We didn’t want the title of the album to take away from the photo, so we decided to go with a very simple type solution. We played with thin serif and sans serif fonts and decided to mix the two. Then we took the style we had created for the cover and applied it to creating the guts of the album art. We also tried to incorporate as many as Nick’s wonderful photos as we could, which is how we came up with the idea for the back panel of the CD booklet, the photo/triangle pattern below. Once we had the artwork approved all that was left to do was rework the design for the iTunes digital booklet. Check out the album art in it’s entirety by getting a copy of your own through iTunes.
