Teddy Campbell, ringleader of The Teddy Campbell Band, and drummer for "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno"

Just like misery, creativity loves company. Luckily, creativity is better for morale. We get to meet so many amazing, talented personalities in our line of work. Just one example, Teddy Campbell. Teddy’s resume is about as lengthy as Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Highlights include his role as musical director for types like Britney Spears, touring credits with acts as varied as The Backstreet Boys and Bette Midler, album credits with legends like Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock, and presently, his drumming talents on the stage with the house band of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, and work on his new personal solo project, The Teddy Campbell Band.

His solo act is where we came into the scene. Referred to us by another of our fabulously talented clients, Onitsha Shaw (check her music out here), Teddy needed some promotional materials ASAP for his first solo show, which will be going down at the Whisky A Go Go on Thursday, January 19th, 2012. Teddy wanted the promotional materials to look like the old posters of the golden era of blues and soul. He sent us Hatch Show Print Shop posters and old posters of James Brown and Miles Davis as inspiration. He really wanted to channel a retro vibe to reflect the mood of his band. He sent us a photo of himself to work into the designs and then sent us to work. After revisions and edits, we arrived at the two final options shown in this post, both of which were meant to look retro, with the image edited to be kind of grainy and vintage-y.

Teddy was thrilled with the final result. He said of his experience working with us:

“I was having my first solo show in Hollywood at the Whisky A Go-Go. It was a big deal for me and I wanted to make sure I promoted it in style, using retro posters and flyers that reflect my band’s sound as well as make us look like the stablished, pro musicians we are. We had little time to get the design done before the show. Despite the hurry, Jennifer and Amy were able to work with me quickly and efficiently to get me creative ideas based on the concept I explained to them. Once we ironed out the final tweaks, I had amazing flyers and posters that embodied the vibe I was going for. It was a great experience working and I definitely recommend Hoodzpah’s work.”

It feels so good to make another creative proud. We highly recommend that you go check out the show in Hollywood on the 19th. It starts at 8pm and is only $10 at the door if you say you are there to see The Teddy Campbell Band. The Whisky is located at 8901 West Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA.
